Tutoring has traditionally been more prevalent in urban, affluent areas, however thanks to technology, private online tutoring sessions are now being made available to more students around the country.
Some rural schools are funding the tutoring using the pupil premium funding they receive for children from deprived backgrounds.
Although more than two thirds of 2,000 state school teachers believe that tutoring has helped to improve students’ confidence and grades, James Grant, the co-founder of MyTutor, an online tutoring platform, has warned that ‘online tutoring can’t – and shouldn’t – replace classrooms’.
