Rural areas face significant challenges in the quest for net zero, with the lack of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure being a major hurdle. Despite the increase in public EV chargers, rural regions lag behind urban areas, exacerbating disparities in transportation decarbonisation.

In a recent article, CIHT  emphasises the need for an extensive network of EV charging points and innovations in electric and hydrogen public transport to overcome these challenges. Collaborations with organisations like Transport East, which aims to reduce car dependency and support the transition to EVs, are crucial. Their Rural Mobility Centre of Excellence provides valuable insights and recommendations for reducing transport emissions in rural areas.

Our Chief Executive, Kerry Booth, has been actively contributing to these discussions, recently speaking with CIHT, alongside Transport East to highlight the unique challenges faced by rural communities and the necessary steps to address them.
