National lockdowns unfairly penalise rural Britain and must never be repeated

The Telegraph reports on complaints raised by rural residents that they are being ‘penalised’ through COVID-19 restrictions that unfairly affect rural communities

Following the November nation-wide lockdown, the article calls on the Government to ‘never again resort to a blanket approach’ to bring diseases under control.

The rural tourism and hospitality industry, especially, has been ‘decimated’ by one-size-fits-all legislation.

According to Imperial College London’s REACT study for England quoted in the article, this latest lockdown saw infections fall by more than half in the North West and North East, suggesting a targeted, regional approach is capable of delivering results where needed.
