Rural Commission calls for evidence

Members of North Yorkshire’s Rural Commission have launched a call for evidence as part of its first inquiry

The Darlington and Stockton Times reports that the independent panel will first investigate farming, agriculture and the environment as part of its eight month scheme of work.

At the end of that period, the Commission will make recommendations to North Yorkshire County Council on how best to halt rural decline.

Reverend John Dobson, Dean of Ripon, chairs the panel, he commented: ‘Farming and the pressures on our agricultural businesses, as well as the environment they are working in, are the topics of the moment and our decision to examine them first reflects this. We are very much in listening mode and want therefore to hear from farmers, local residents and businesses on those issues they believe the commission needs to consider.’
