This year the grant pot was increased to £70,000 and 21 prizes were awarded. Since the fund was announced in 2017, 51 amazing rural community projects across the UK have been successful with funding. All these projects were designed to improve the lives of their local rural communities. 10 projects were awarded £5000 this year including:
Somerford Keynes Village Lake, Gloucestershire Refurbishment of Tafarn yr Heliwr, Gwynedd A Modern, Safe Drainage System for our Community Shop, Wiltshire New Infrastructure for Abergynolwyn Children's Play Area, Gwynedd Manton Community Outdoors, Wiltshire “The Living Room”, Dumfries & Galloway See and Be Seen, Wiltshire Education Hub Refurbishment at our Wildlife Sanctuary, Somerset HART Wildlife Rescue, Hampshire Fensong, Norfolk
'A modern, safe drainage system for our community shop' is a fabulous project in Wiltshire where the community-run shop operates out of a pair of adapted portacabins. When they started up, funding was limited, so only basic services were put in. Over the years they have made improvements to the building but there are still no proper drains. This project is aimed at modernising the shop building by providing rainwater drainage that meets current building regulations and a sewerage connection into the village’s main drain, which is 15 metres away from the shop.
Calor Rural Community Fund provides a very varied range of projects support to help rural communities from things like drainage for the community shop to a thrive room to support children’s social and emotional wellbeing in Suffolk and equipment for conservation volunteers in Shropshire. Congratulations to all of the winning organisations!
