Rural renters flood back into London after pandemic exodus

The Telegraph reports that renters have flooded back to London and triggered a record jump in the cost of leasing a home in the capital

Almost a third of London homes let so far this year have been rented by tenants moving from outside the city, the highest share ever recorded by Hamptons.

The estate agency said many people are choosing city-living for cultural and lifestyle reasons rather than work.

This marks a sharp reversal of the pandemic-fuelled exodus which saw large numbers of people flee the capital in search of more space and greener pastures.

Of the tenants who relocated to the city so far this year, more than half came from rural counties. Aneisha Beveridge, of Hamptons, said the trend showed life in the capital was "slowly returning to normal".
