Village halls hailed as 'essential meeting places' for rural Shropshire communities

Shropshire Star reports that a recent report by Rural England has highlighted the contributions that village halls make to rural communities and warns about the impact of the pandemic on the health of village halls, which many consider vital or necessary to the community

Shropshire village hall committee members have had their say on the importance of village halls and the work that they do for their local community, with members - Chris Caine, chairman of Morville Village Hall, Sue Parsons, Vice Chair of Little Wenlock Village Hall and Betty Manley, secretary of Westhope Village Hall – appealing for community support to ensure village halls remain.

Brian Wilson, author of the report and chairman of Rural England CIC, comments on the findings of the Rural England report and calls for people to be encouraged to return and that halls are properly supported to ensure that rural communities are not left behind.

The article also includes commentary from the CEO of Community Resource, a charity that provides a membership scheme to village halls across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, offering advice and support on grant funding, governance and recruiting volunteers.
